In an online course, you complete your coursework from home or anywhere you have access to a computer and the internet. Instead of meeting in a classroom, most course content is delivered online, and communication with your instructor and classmates happens through discussion boards and email.
糖心视频 uses Canvas, our online learning platform, to organize everything you need for your class, including
announcements, assignments, discussions, quizzes, grades, and messages. You鈥檒l be
responsible for completing readings and assignments and keeping track of deadlines
posted in Canvas.
Online courses work best for students who are comfortable learning independently,
but you鈥檙e never on your own. Instructors and support services are available by email,
discussion board, phone, or in person when needed.
What to Expect in an Online Course
- Canvas is your main hub for coursework, communication, and grades
- Assignments, quizzes, and exams are completed online
- You鈥檒l participate in discussion boards and communicate with your instructor electronically
- You can track your progress and performance throughout the course

Online classes offer flexibility, but they also require self-motivation, time management, and strong reading and writing skills.

Finding and Enrolling in Online Classes
Enrollment and registration for online classes follow the same steps as on-campus courses. Visit the Apply and Enroll page to get started.
When searching for classes, select the 鈥淥nline Classes Only鈥 option or view the online
classes list. Be sure to review instructor notes in WebAdvisor, as some courses may
have special requirements, such as an on-campus orientation or specific software.
What You鈥檒l Need to Succeed
- Reliable access to a computer and the internet
- Your course textbook (many are free through the Zero-Textbook Cost Program)
- The ability to work independently without face-to-face instruction
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and email
- Comfort using the internet and troubleshooting simple tech issues
- Strong reading and writing skills
- Time management: plan for about 5鈥6 hours per week per course
- A backup plan in case of technology issues
Staying on schedule is key, so you鈥檒l want to check in frequently. Falling behind is the most common challenge for online students.
