The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that affords parents the right to have access to their children鈥檚 education records, the right to seek to have the records amended, and the right to have some control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the education records. When a student turns 18 years old, or enters a post-secondary institution at any age, the rights under FERPA transfer from the parents to the student (鈥渆ligible student鈥�). The FERPA statute is found at 20 U.S.C. 搂 1232g and the FERPA regulations are found at 34 CFR Part 99

  • The arrangement we have worked out over time, and which the data consistently bears out as effective for DSPS students, is that students can have two appointments in a day 鈥� for disciplines where this is possible. BUT they do this by completing one 30-minute session, asking to make another appointment starting 1 hour later or more, and then applying the information and strategies that they learned in the first session before they attend the second. Then, they have a pretty good idea of what they understood and what they would like to work on again or next.  This improves retention of information and models breaking tasks into doable parts.
